We are finding our place here:
I don’t just see a mass of parents in front of the school anymore, I see individuals that look familiar. We greet each other and know each others names.
Calum doesn’t just stay sadly by the school window anymore, waving at me four times before I leave the school grounds.
The teachers know our story. And even though some still think we are from Sweden, they know we lived in Europe up until now and that English wasn’t our school language.
We get invited to parties from people that live in the area that we met in the last 4 months.
The lunch preparations for our oldest two don’t freak me out anymore.
We know our closest neighbors.
We found a great babysitter.
…and so the list goes on…

Vor der Schule sehe ich nicht mehr nur eine Masse von Eltern, sondern immer mehr vertraute Gesichter. Wir grüssen uns beim Namen.
Calum bleibt nicht mehr regelmässig traurig am Schulfenster stehen und winkt mir vier Mal bis ich den Schulhof verlassen habe.
Die Lehrpersonen kennen unsere Geschichte. Und auch wenn einige immer noch denken, dass wir aus Schweden kommen, sie wissen, dass wir bis jetzt in Europa gelebt haben und Englisch nicht unsere Schulsprache war.
Wir werden im Quartier zu Festen eingeladen.
Morgens bringen mich die Lunchvorbereitungen für unsere zwei Ältesten nicht mehr aus der Bahn.
Wir kennen unsere nächsten Nachbarn.
Wir haben einen tolle Babysitterin gefunden.
