To start with you need to decide what size you want it to be.

Zu Beginn muss entschieden werden, welche Grösse der Korb haben soll.

Mine has a height of 40 cm and a perimeter of 110 cm. The bottom is 18 cm deep.

Meiner hat eine Höhe von 40 cm und einen Umfang von 110 cm. Der Boden ist 18 cm tief.

To calculate the size of the felt you have to take the depth of the bottom and half it and then you add this number to the height of your basket. To that you add one extra cm. Now you double this number. This is now one side of your felt pattern. If you add 2 cm to the perimeter number, you will have the other side of your felt pattern.

Um die Grösse des Filzes zu berechnen, muss man die Hälfte der Bodentiefe zur Höhe dazuzählen und einen extra cm dazugeben. Dies muss dann noch verdoppelt werden, das ist nun eine Seite des Filzes. Um die andere Seite zu berechnen, zählt man 2 cm zum Umfang dazu.

So, mine has a size of 100 cm by 112 cm.

Also mein Filz hat eine Grösse von 100 cm auf 112 cm.

I wanted the bottom of the basket to be covered with another material. If you would like that as well, the width of the fabric is the same as the one from your felt piece. The height is again the half of the depth of the bottom of the basket and then you can decide how much of the side of your basket shall be covered by it. Add this number to the half of the bottom number and add an extra 2 cm.

Ich wollte den unteren Teil des Korbes mit Stoff überziehen. Dafür benötigt man ein Stück Stoff mit einer Breite des Umfangs (mit den 2 extra cm) und die Höhe ist nochmals die Hälfte der Bodentiefe zusammengezählt mit der gewünschten Höhe an der Seite des Korbes. Dazu werden nochmals 2 cm dazugezählt.

 

To attach the fabric to the felt, I ironed one cm back (lenghtwise).

Um den Stoff  sauber auf den Filz nähen zu können, habe ich 1 cm nach hinten gebügelt (der Länge des Stoffes entlang).

Then I sewed it onto the felt with a zick zack.

Dann habe ich den Stoff mit einem Zick Zack auf den Filz genäht. 

I also sewed on some ribbons.

Ich habe auch Bänder aufgenäht.

Then I folded the felt (right side in), so that the fabric sewn onto the felt closes to a circle.

Dann habe ich den Filz mit der rechten Seite nach innen gefaltet, so dass sich der aufgenähte Stoff zu einem Kreis schliesst.

Now you sew around it with leaving an opening on the short felt side without the extra fabric sewn on.

Jetzt näht man rundherum, wobei man eine Öffnung auf der kurzen Filzseite ohne extra Stoff offen lässt. 

Then all for corners have to be folded like shown on the picture above. I measured 9 cm in and cut that piece of and sewed the basket shut at the 10cm line. Make sure that the fabric inside is nicely placed on the felt, before you sew this part, other wise it can wrinkle up.

Dann werden alle vier Ecken so gefaltet wie oben auf dem Bild. Ich habe 9 cm nach innen gemessen und die Ecken dann abgeschnitten und den Korb an der 10cm Linie zugenäht. Wichtig ist, dass der Stoff schön auf dem Filz liegt, sonst können Falten entstehen. 

The project can now be turned inside out. The part with only felt can now be pushed into the other part and you are done.

Das Projekt kann jetzt von innen nach aussen gedreht werden. Der Teil mit nur Filz kann nun in den anderen Teil gestossen werden und der Korb ist fertig.

I was thinking about attaching that flower as well, but I’m not fully happy with it yet…

Ich überlege mir noch, ob ich die Blume annähen soll, sie überzeugt mich noch nicht ganz…

It was a bit tricky writing this up, I hope it makes sense. I wanted you to be able to choose your own basket size.

Es war ein bisschen komplex, die Anleitung zu schreiben und ich hoffe, sie macht Sinn. Ich wollte möglich machen, dass man die Grösse der Korbes selbst wählen kann.
